Title:

AzuManga Daioh, Book Two

Publisher’s rating:

Age 13+

Genre:

Action/Comedy

Publisher's Website:

ADV

Anime:

ADV Films

Sound bite:

Four-panel comics with schoolgirl humor that is often elusive to grownups, but apparently accessible to kids.

My rating:

OK for 13 and up. Some of the conversations may present issues that younger kids aren't ready for, but there is no explicit sex or violence.

Kid Reviews:

More details:

Plot Summary:

This book is a series of short gags, all about a group of schoolgirls and their teachers. They go on vacation, have sports day, etc.

Character and morality:

The gags are too short to develop much of a story. The girls are amiable but somewhat competitive, and envious of Chiyo-Chan's apparent perfection. The girls play a few mean tricks on strangers and each other.

Violence:

Very mild cartoon violence. The cat bites the girl again, and a teacher's wife runs into a lamppost. The girls all pummel one of their group in an attempt to cure her hiccups.

Sexuality/body functions:

Once again, the girls discuss breast size. There is also a conversation about dieting. As in volume 1, the male teacher appears and makes creepy comments, asking the girls to change into gym shorts, etc.

Language:

"Hell," "damn, "sucks," and "fricking."

Substances:

Two of the teachers go out drinking, and one gets drunk and obnoxious.
